Eling Village located
on the edge of Southampton Waters. It is a delightful village
with 3 local Public Houses all serving good food at very reasonable
prices. The most famous site is St. Mary's Church on Eling Hill,
which is mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The Old Toll
Bridge into the village dates back to 1385 and is still used
to this day. There are pleasant boardwalks along Bartley Waters
starting near Eling Sailing Club.
The Heritage Centre will give one a glimpse of the History of
Totton and Eling. It also has a small café for refreshments.
The Eling Tide Mill is reputed to be the only working Tidal
Mill in Europe that regularly produces it's own local flour.
Totton
Totton used to be known as the largest village in England and
is now spread over a vast area on the very edge of Southampton
and close to the M271 motorway.
It also has numerous bus routes linking the local areas.
The River Test is famous
for it's trout fishing and The Salmon Leap area is well worth
a visit. There are pleasant boardwalks and hides for bird watching
across the Nature Preserve and Marshes. Totton also has a small
local market on Wednesdays. There is a verity of local places
to eat including Indian & Chinese Restaurants.
