Brockenhurst

BROCKENHURT is on the, main line station from London Waterloo for the forest with a branch line to Lymington Town and the Isle of Wight Ferries.

Brockenhurst is a very busy village in summer with 3 Forestry Commission Camp sites close by together with a Caravan Club site.

The Ponies, Donkey’s and cattle wonder freely through the streets. Brockenhust is also the home of New Park were regular events including the New Forest Show in July, a 3 day show with Show jumping, ponies, cattle and sheep displays together with exhibitions and crafts. Also your chance to meet many Forest Characters and learn 16.bmp (6015294 bytes)about the Forest way of life.

Brockenhurst is also and idea centre to start your cycle tour of the many gravel tracks through the enclosures that are way marked. (Cycle maps are avilable at Balmer Lawn Cycle Hire, Balmer Lawn Road).

The Parish church at Brockenhurst was mentioned in the Domesday Book and standing beside it is a Yew tree, which is reputed to be 1000 years old. The main street in Brockenhurst has a ford know as the Watersplash. If going through this and then turning right you can pass through the Ornamental Drive where wild rhododendrons line the roadside and way marked walks lead you through the Forest. A short distance on crossing the A35 at Boldrewood you will find the Knightwood Oak and the Deer Observatory Platform where you might see some of the 5 species of Deer which graze the Forest.
